Inside a $13K Amazon Returns Pallet: Did This Guy Actually Make Money?

Buying pallets of returned merchandise has become a popular side hustle, especially for people hoping to flip discounted items for a profit. But how risky is it really?

One YouTuber decided to find out the hard way.

Harrison Nevel spent $3,345 on a massive pallet of returned electronics that originally retailed for $13,252. The pallet came packed with items that had been sent back to Amazon — meaning some might be perfectly fine, while others could be completely broken.

So the big question: Was it worth the gamble?

The Treasure Hunt Begins

Before opening the pallet, Harrison pointed out that buying returns is always a risk. There’s no guarantee the products will work, and sometimes they’re damaged beyond repair.

Still, he dove in.

Inside the pallet was a mixed bag of tech and household items, including:

Electric guitars
A Nintendo Switch
Coffee machines
Small kitchen appliances
A robot vacuum
And a 49-inch Samsung Odyssey G9 monitor

The massive gaming monitor alone was a promising start. It normally sells for around $1,184 new, and luckily it worked. Harrison estimated he could resell it for about $400 on the secondary market.

Some Hits… and a Lot of Misses

As he kept digging, the results were mixed.

Two electric guitars were inside the pallet, but neither was perfect. One had significant damage and was only worth about $225, while the other was missing a backplate, dropping its resale value to roughly $350.

Then there were the smaller household items:

A barely functioning Roomba robot vacuum worth about $45
A panini press valued around $65
A toaster that could sell for roughly $20

Unfortunately, several other appliances were simply too dirty or damaged to sell at all, including a vacuum cleaner and a fan.

The coffee machines were another mixed result. One was completely broken, while the other had clearly seen better days but could still sell for about $75.

The Biggest Finds

A couple of items really helped boost the potential profit.

The Nintendo Switch turned on and worked perfectly, which meant it could likely be resold for around $460.

But the real jackpot came from a Canon camera and lens buried in the pallet. Harrison estimated the camera could resell for about $1,250, while the lens alone might fetch $1,800.

So… Did He Actually Make Money?

After testing everything, Harrison discovered that only about 30–40% of the items actually worked.

Still, once he added up the estimated resale prices, the total came to $5,281.

Considering he paid $3,345 for the pallet, that leaves a potential profit of $1,936.

Of course, that doesn’t include selling fees, shipping costs, or the time it takes to list and sell everything. But even after those expenses, it looks like the gamble might have paid off.

The Takeaway

Buying return pallets can definitely be profitable, but it’s far from guaranteed. As this experiment shows, you might strike gold with a few valuable items — but you’ll also end up with plenty of junk along the way.

For Harrison, though, the $3,000 gamble turned out to be a pretty solid score.

This isn’t the first time ranch has wandered into frozen dessert territory. A few years ago, ice cream brand Van Leeuwenteamed up with Hidden Valley Ranch for a ranch-flavored ice cream collaboration.

The verdict back then? Surprisingly not horrifying at first sip. The vanilla base carried most of the weight, but those savory herbs and spices crept in during the aftertaste like an uninvited guest who refuses to leave.

In other words: tolerable… but not something you’re craving at 10 p.m.

Would You Drink This After Water Slides?

There are nearly two dozen Great Wolf Lodge locations across the country, meaning plenty of opportunities to test your taste buds (and possibly your stomach lining).

Is this the ideal treat after a long day of chlorine, wave pools, and indoor waterslides? Hard to say. Ranch loyalists are a fearless bunch. For some, this might be the ultimate day-trip indulgence. For others, it’s a social experiment disguised as dessert.

Will it earn a spot among the best milkshakes in America? Probably not.

But will people try it? Absolutely.

The South Fulton Police Department is going viral again — and this time, they’ve got a message for parents: make sure your kid’s lunchbox doesn’t require a government-issued ID.

“That Is NOT Capri Sun”

In a recent social media post, the department shared that they’ve received reports of pre-mixed alcoholic cocktails — including drinks like Cutwater Margarita — being accidentally packed alongside elementary school staples.

Their blunt (and hilarious) reminder?

“That is NOT Capri Sun. That is a whole ‘Parent had a long night’ starter pack.”

According to the post, beverages boasting 12% ABV have no business hanging out next to a PB&J. Officers painted a pretty vivid hypothetical scenario:

“Now little Johnny done pulled up to 3rd period talking about: ‘Who want fruit snacks?’ knowing good and well, he got a Lemon Drop Martini in the zipper pocket.”

The department stressed that while mornings can be chaotic, there’s no excuse for a lunchbox mix-up that lands a third grader in the cafeteria with something stronger than chocolate milk.

Burger King Is Testing AI Headsets That Track If Employees Say

Burger King is testing AI-powered headsets that can recite recipes, alert managers when inventories are low and even track how friendly employees are to customers.

Restaurant Brands International – the Miami-based company that owns Burger King, Popeyes and other brands – said Thursday it’s currently testing the OpenAI-powered headsets in 500 U.S. restaurants.

The system collects data on restaurant operations and shares it via “Patty,” a voice that talks to employees through their headsets. If the drink machine is low on Diet Coke, Patty will tell the store’s manager. If a customer uses a QR code to report a messy bathroom, the manager will be alerted.

Employees can ask Patty how to make various menu items or tell Patty to remove items from digital menus if they’ve run out of ingredients.

Burger King said it’s also exploring using Patty as a way to improve customer service. The system can track when employees say key words like “welcome,” “please” and “thank you” and share that with managers.

When asked about that capability Thursday by The Associated Press, Burger King said the intent is to use Patty as a coaching tool, not a tracker of individual employees.

“It’s not about scoring individuals or enforcing scripts. It’s about reinforcing great hospitality and giving managers helpful, real-time insights so they can recognize their teams more effectively,” Burger King said in a statement.

Burger King added that the key words are “one of many signals to help managers understand service patterns.”

“We believe hospitality is fundamentally human. The role of this technology is to support our teams so they can stay present with guests,” Burger King said.

Patty is part of a larger app-based BK Assistant platform that will be available to all U.S. restaurants later this year.

Burger King is one of several fast food chains experimenting with artificial intelligence. Yum Brands said last spring it was partnering with Nvidia to develop AI technologies for its brands, which include KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut.

McDonald’s ended a partnership with IBM in 2024 that was testing automated orders at its drive-thrus. The company is now working with Google on AI systems.

The Oldest Fossilized Butthole Ever Found Is 290 Million Years Old

Here’s something you probably didn’t expect to read today: scientists have discovered the world’s oldest known fossilized reptile butthole.

Nearly 300 million years ago, a small reptile paused for a rest in a patch of soft mud. It eventually got up and went on its way — but it left behind something extraordinary. That brief pit stop created the earliest known fossilized skin impression from a reptile, complete with scales and what researchers interpret as a preserved cloaca.

Yes, that cloaca.

For the uninitiated, a cloaca is a multi-purpose opening used by many animals for pooping, peeing, mating, and laying eggs. It’s essentially a one-stop biological shop. And finding one preserved in the fossil record is almost unheard of.

“Such soft-tissue structures are extremely rare in the fossil record — and the further back we look in Earth’s history, the more exceptional they become,” said paleontologist Lorenzo Marchetti of the German Natural History Museum in Berlin.

A Muddy Snapshot From the Permian

The fossil was discovered in Germany’s Thuringian Forest Basin, within the sedimentary Goldlauter Formation. Analysis shows the impression was made by a reptile about 9 centimeters (roughly 3.5 inches) long.

Marchetti and his team named the trace fossil Cabarzichnus pulchrus, identifying it as a newly described species of reptile “resting trace.” Based on its size and nearby footprints, researchers believe it was likely a bolosaurian — an early branch of reptiles that lived around 295 million years ago during the Asselian age of the early Permian period.

This was a pivotal moment in evolutionary history. Reptiles were beginning to diversify rapidly, setting the stage for the rise of dinosaurs and many modern species.

Scales, Skin — and a Showstopper

The fossil preserves an incredibly detailed belly imprint, including rows of polygonal epidermal scales made of keratin — similar to those found in modern reptiles today. These weren’t heavy, bony armor plates. They were true skin scales.

But the real headline-grabber is at the base of the tail.

There, scientists found modified scales surrounding a vent-like opening — what appears to be a cloaca. If confirmed, this makes it the earliest fossil evidence of a cloacal vent in amniotes (the group that includes reptiles, birds, and mammals).

To put that in perspective, the previous record-holder was a 120-million-year-old specimen of Psittacosaurus. This new discovery smashes that record by roughly 170 million years.

Interestingly, the shape and orientation of this ancient cloaca differ from those seen in dinosaurs and crocodiles. Instead, it more closely resembles the anatomy of modern turtles, lizards, and snakes — offering new insight into how reptile anatomy evolved over time.

Why This Matters

It might be easy to laugh at the idea of a fossilized butthole making scientific headlines, but this discovery is a big deal.

Trace fossils — which include footprints, resting impressions, and other indirect evidence of life — are often dismissed as less exciting than bones. But they can preserve soft-tissue details that skeletal fossils simply can’t.

“Trace fossils are far more than simple footprints,” Marchetti explained. “They preserve anatomical details that would otherwise be completely lost and play a key role in improving our understanding of the evolution of early terrestrial vertebrates.”

The findings were published in Current Biology and open up new perspectives on how early reptiles developed their skin and body structures.

So the next time someone says science isn’t exciting, just remind them: sometimes the biggest breakthroughs come from the smallest — and most unexpected — places.

According to Chief Strategy Officer Paul Keable, the change reflects a surprising evolution in the company’s user base. While the site became infamous as a hub for extramarital affairs, 57% of new members today are actually single.

“What that told us,” Keable said in an interview with Fox News Digital, “is that people are coming to our site for a different reason — for discretion.”

Rather than positioning itself strictly as a platform for “married dating,” Ashley Madison is now framing itself as a space for private, low-profile connections — no matter someone’s relationship status.

Dating Fatigue Is Real

Keable argues the shift is less about morality and more about modern dating burnout.

After 20-plus years in the social media era, where relationships are curated and constantly visible, many users are feeling overwhelmed. Roughly 30% of online daters report feeling constant pressure to swipe, message, and perform — often without meaningful results.

And there’s another factor: visibility.

Some users don’t love the idea of coworkers or acquaintances spotting their profiles on traditional dating apps. With more people back in the office, privacy concerns are rising.

Keable acknowledges the company has faced years of criticism but maintains that people would cheat whether or not the platform exists. He insists the rebrand isn’t about ethics — it’s about listening to members.

“This shift is a realization that people want to continue to date and connect, but under their own terms,” he said.

To mark the new direction, Ashley Madison is launching a fresh marketing campaign titled “Blessed Are the Discreet.”The campaign celebrates users who want intimate connections without broadcasting their personal lives to the world.

Smart Underwear Is Tracking Your Farts - And the Results Are Blowing Up

Everyone does it. Call it breaking wind, cutting the cheese, or sounding the trumpet — farting is just part of being human. But when does “normal” turn into “too much”?

That’s exactly what researchers at the University of Maryland are trying to figure out — and they’re doing it with something called “Smart Underwear.”

Yes, It’s Exactly What It Sounds Like

Led by Brantley Hall, an assistant professor in the university’s Department of Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics, the nationwide study aims to finally answer a question doctors hear all the time: How much gas is excessive?

According to Hall, gastroenterologists are flooded with patients complaining about excess intestinal gas — and there’s surprisingly little solid data to guide them.

“It’s expensive, it’s time consuming, but there’s really no answer,” Hall said of current diagnostic efforts.

So he built one.

About five years ago, Hall and his research team developed a wearable device — roughly the size of a quarter — that clips onto underwear. Using electrochemical sensors, the device tracks how often someone passes gas throughout the day.

Science has officially entered the chat.

The Early Results Might Surprise You

In a small “proof of concept” study published in December involving 19 adults, researchers found that participants passed gas an average of 32 times per day — more than double the amount commonly cited in medical literature.

But here’s where it gets interesting: the numbers varied wildly.

Two participants who reported eating the same diet passed gas 175 times and five times, respectively, in a single day.

That kind of gap is exactly what Hall wants to understand.

The Human Flatulence Study Is Blowing Up

In mid-February, the team launched the full-scale “Human Flatulence Study,” originally hoping to recruit 800 participants.

Hall admits he would have been thrilled if even 10 people signed up in the first week.

Instead? More than 3,000 volunteers from nearly all 50 states have already enrolled.

“It turns out people are extremely interested and want to know whether they’re farting a normal amount,” Hall said.

Participants have been surprisingly open, sharing personal — and sometimes embarrassing — stories about untimely gas incidents. According to Hall, that openness may be the biggest surprise of all.

What Happens Next?

Researchers will track participants’ food intake and aim to standardize diets as much as possible. They’re also collecting detailed demographic information to help pinpoint why some people are more… musically inclined than others.

Preliminary results are expected within about a year.

The study is limited to U.S. participants, so it won’t represent the entire world. But with thousands of volunteers, Hall believes they’ll capture a wide range of data across the population.

So if you’ve ever wondered whether your daily gas output is normal — science may soon have an answer.

Until then, you can blame it on research.

Back in May 1996, Audubon Chrysler in Kentucky had a bold idea. Instead of simply putting a brand-new Dodge Viper RT/10 on the lot and waiting for a buyer, the dealership decided to turn it into a marketing spectacle.

They hoisted the Viper onto a 30-foot pole outside the dealership, transforming it into both an eye-catching advertisement and an unofficial mascot.

What made it even more wild? The car was — and still is — the real deal. Not a replica. Not a shell. A genuine Viper with just 12 original miles on the odometer.

The car only came down once over the years, in 2009, for a refresh. Otherwise, it sat perched above the dealership, becoming a beloved local landmark and sparking all kinds of rumors. Many locals were convinced it couldn’t possibly be a real car after decades exposed to the elements.

They were wrong.

Back to Earth — and a Big Surprise

In November 2024, 15 years after its last restoration, the sky-high Viper was finally lowered again for inspection.

Photos shared on Facebook by Scott Harris captured the moment the car was brought down. According to Harris, what was supposed to be a simple refresh quickly turned into a much bigger project.

And he wasn’t exaggerating.

After nearly three decades in the air, the damage was clear:

The once-striking red paint had badly deteriorated
The interior was filled with mold
A full bird’s nest had been built inside the engine bay

It wasn’t exactly showroom condition.

Bringing the Legend Back to Life

Despite the wear and tear, the Viper was far from beyond saving.

The car was sent to Keen’s Auto Body and Paint, where a team of specialists got to work restoring its iconic red finish.

“It’s not every day you get to bring new life to a car with such history and visibility,” the shop shared, acknowledging the Viper’s status as a community landmark.

After extensive work, the legendary pole-sitting sports car was fully restored — and once again looks as stunning as it did back in May 1996.

The Chicago Bears are one step closer to potentially building a new stadium in Hammond, Indiana, after a key Indiana House committee unanimously approved a framework bill on Thursday.

The Indiana House Ways and Means Committee signed off on legislation that lays the groundwork for a potential partnership between the state and the Bears. The bill doesn’t finalize a deal, but it establishes the structure needed to negotiate one.

Indiana Gov. Mike Braun said the state has identified a promising lakefront site near Wolf Lake in Hammond and is ready to move quickly.

“Indiana is open for business,” Braun said in a statement, pointing to fast coordination between state agencies, local government, and lawmakers to position the project as a potential win for Hoosiers.

According to the governor, Indiana has built a strong relationship with the Bears organization that could lead to a public-private partnership and the construction of a “world-class stadium.”

The Bears Call It a Major Step Forward

The team described the passage of SB 27 as the “most meaningful step forward” in its stadium planning efforts so far.

In a statement, the Bears said they are committed to completing the necessary site-specific due diligence to support their vision of building near the Wolf Lake area in Hammond. They also thanked Braun, Speaker Huston, Senator Mishler, and members of the Indiana General Assembly for helping create what they called a critical path forward.

If the project moves ahead, the proposed stadium would sit on thousands of acres of lakefront property near Wolf Lake — just steps from the Chicago border and roughly 22 miles from downtown Chicago. The site currently includes a concert pavilion, golf course, and driving range.

Indiana officials have indicated the state could contribute up to $1 billion toward construction, with the stadium ultimately owned by the state.

How We Got Here

Last month, the Indiana Senate advanced legislation that would create the Northwest Indiana Stadium Commission, an entity responsible for financing and building a new stadium for the Bears.

Hammond Mayor Tom McDermott Jr. confirmed the proposed site would be in Hammond. Surveyors were recently spotted working on the property, and sources say the work was being conducted on behalf of the Bears.

McDermott has argued that Hammond offers clear business advantages compared to the team’s previously proposed development in Arlington Heights.

He pointed to what he described as a stronger business climate in Indiana, including lower liability rates and a state budget surplus that could allow Indiana to put together a more competitive incentive package than Illinois.

He also questioned Illinois’ approach to negotiations, noting that the Bears are often called “the pride of Illinois” — yet, in his view, are not being treated that way.

What Happens Next?

A move to Hammond would mark a dramatic shift for one of the NFL’s oldest franchises and could reshape the team’s long-standing identity in Illinois.

For now, several key questions remain — including how Illinois lawmakers will respond. A Bears-related project bill that was expected to be discussed in Illinois on Thursday was abruptly canceled, adding another layer of uncertainty to the team’s stadium future.

While in Italy covering the upcoming Winter Games, Snoop Dogg found himself in an unexpectedly relatable situation: his credit card wouldn’t go through at dinner.

The 54-year-old rap icon is in Milan-Cortina serving as an NBC correspondent for the 2026 Winter Olympics. During a stop in Livigno, he swung by local gastropub Cronox and ordered like a man with serious cravings — a cheeseburger, chicken wings, chicken nuggets, and fries.

But when it came time to pay? Awkward.

According to Sofia Valmadre, whose family owns the restaurant, Snoop’s card simply wouldn’t process. Staff tried running it, but no luck.

“He sent his staff to take the card and pay, but they couldn’t,” Valmadre said in a video that quickly made the rounds online. “I don’t know why — it wasn’t going. So my mother told him it was OK to take the food without paying.”

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and if you’re still searching for “the one,” where you live might matter more than you think.

A new study from WalletHub has ranked all 50 states based on how friendly they are for singles—and California landed near the top of the list.

WalletHub compared states across 29 different factors, grouped into three main categories:

Dating opportunities
Dating economics
Romance and fun

According to the researchers, your chances of finding love aren’t just about looks, personality, or career.

“Beyond your looks, personality, interests and career, where you live can play a major role in your chances of finding a romantic partner,” WalletHub noted. “Some places naturally make it easier to meet and connect with others.”

So… Where Did California Rank?

The Golden State placed 4th overall, trailing only Florida, New York, and Texas.

California earned a total score of 63.69 out of 100 and stood out in several major categories:

#1 in dating opportunities
#3 in romance and fun

But there was one big drawback.

When it came to dating economics—which factors in things like food and drink prices, cost of going out, median credit scores, and employment rates—California finished dead last.

In other words: there are plenty of places to go and people to meet… it just might cost you.

California Lawmaker Wants to Cap Ticket Resale Prices to Protect Fans

If you’ve ever gone to buy concert tickets only to find them sold out in seconds—then reappearing online at triple the price—you’re not alone. A new bill in California aims to put an end to that frustration.

On Thursday, Assemblymember Matt Haney (D–San Francisco) introduced AB 1720, also known as the California Fans First Act, a proposal designed to limit how much tickets for live events can be resold for.

“For decades, concert tickets were sold at face value to real fans who wanted to see the artists they loved,” Haney said. “But today, professional scalpers and bots buy up tickets in seconds and resell them at massive markups.”

What the bill would do

If passed, AB 1720 would cap resale prices at no more than 10% above face value. The rule would apply to:

Concerts
Comedy shows
Theatrical performances

However, sporting events would be excluded from the cap.

According to data cited by Haney’s office, many fans are currently paying more than double the original ticket price on secondary resale sites, with some tickets climbing several times above face value.

Why it matters

Haney says the issue goes beyond individual frustration—it’s hurting local music scenes and downtown businesses.

“California is the heart of the music industry, and we have a duty to stand with fans, artists and venues, not speculators and scalpers,” he said.

As chair of the Committee on Downtown Recovery, Haney pointed out that when fans overpay for one event, they often can’t afford to attend others. That means fewer people at independent venues, less nightlife activity, and less money flowing to small businesses.

Fans can still resell—within limits

The bill isn’t meant to block legitimate resale. If someone can’t attend an event, they could still sell their ticket—but only at a modest, regulated increase of up to 10%.

The goal, Haney says, is simple: keep tickets in the hands of real fans, not bots and scalpers.

If AB 1720 passes, California could become one of the strongest states in the country when it comes to protecting fans from ticket price gouging.

This Valentine’s Day, Dave & Buster’s is turning date night into a high-stakes game of chance — with diamonds on the line.

The entertainment chain is upgrading its popular Human Crane attraction by adding some truly jaw-dropping prizes: five 3-carat diamond rings, each valued at $15,000.

The Human Crane is a life-sized version of the classic arcade claw machine. Players are lowered into a pit filled with prizes and have a limited time to grab whatever they can. On Valentine’s Day only, lucky participants at select locations will find diamond rings mixed in with the usual rewards.

Rides on the Human Crane start at $20 per person, but for some, that could turn into the most valuable grab of their lives.

MIT Builds a Machine That Turns Photos Into Scents

What if you could smell a memory?

Researchers at MIT’s Media Lab have developed a prototype that uses generative AI to transform a photograph into a custom-made fragrance. The device, called the Anemoia Device, is being described as a “scent-memory machine” — and it may change the way we experience nostalgia forever.

How the Anemoia Device Works

The machine is built in three vertical sections:

Top: Users insert a physical, analog photograph.
Middle: An AI-powered computer analyzes the image and lets users fine-tune the interpretation using three physical dials.
Bottom: A system of pumps blends fragrances from multiple scent reservoirs to create a unique aroma.

MIT researcher Cyrus Clarke, who created the device, says the whole process is inspired by distillation.

“You take a dense, layered memory artifact and transform it and compress it into something,” Clarke explained.

Inspired by “Anemoia”

The device is named after anemoia — a type of nostalgia for a time you’ve never personally experienced. While the machine can work with any photograph, Clarke is especially interested in “unlived memories,” such as family archives, childhood photos, or heirloom recipes.

He says this framework allows the system to start in a broad, universal space before moving into more personal emotional territory.

Turning an Image Into a Smell

The Anemoia Device uses a vision-language model to interpret the contents of a photo, but users help guide the final result using three dials:

Point of View – Choose a subject in the photo, such as a person, tree, or object.
Lifecycle Stage – If it’s a person, select child or elderly. If it’s an object, choose from stages like “raw,” “in use,” or “decay.”
Emotional Tone – Pick a mood, such as calm, joyful, or melancholic.

These selections shape how the AI interprets the image and which scent notes are blended.

A Real Example

In one test, a participant uploaded an archival photo of a couple eating fruit on stone steps in a garden. The user chose the fruit as the subject, set its stage as “in use,” and selected “calm” as the mood.

The device produced a fragrance with notes of spiced apple, pear, and earthy musk.

“The user said it transported them to autumn,” Clarke recalled — a reaction that aligned with the scent’s seasonal tones.

More Than Just Clichés

Clarke acknowledges that certain associations — like apples and autumn — are common. But he says this “shared vocabulary” helps the system find a starting point before becoming more nuanced.

The prototype includes a library of 50 base scents, including sandalwood, pine forest, old books, leather, and sand. Each scent is released in one-second bursts, allowing for thousands of possible combinations.

Two people, Clarke says, can turn the same beach photo into completely different atmospheres depending on their choices.

Making Memories Tangible

Clarke has long explored ways to make memories physical. Before MIT, he founded a project called Grow Your Own Cloud, which investigated storing memories inside plant DNA.

He believes modern memories live too much in the digital world:

“They’re accessible, but they’re not truly with us, and I want to change that.”

Clarke envisions two future versions of the Anemoia Device:

A desktop-sized home device that can “print” scented memories
An online service where users send in photos and receive custom fragrances

Despite the irony of using advanced technology to reconnect people with their senses, Clarke embraces the contradiction.

“I don’t think everything has to be an attention-stealing machine,” he said. “We should create technology that makes you pause, breathe, and notice the world again.”

An “infatuated” prison officer who carried out a secret sexual relationship with a convicted gang member — while smuggling contraband into the jail — has been sentenced to two and a half years behind bars.

Charlotte Winstanley, 27, was working at HMP Lindholme near Doncaster when she began a “substantial sexual relationship” with inmate Jabhari Blair, 30. The affair included explicit photos and videos, secret meetings inside the prison, and the illegal delivery of mobile phones, SIM cards, and other banned items.

The scandal was described by a judge as the worst case of its kind he had ever handled.

A Dangerous and Secret Affair

Sheffield Crown Court heard that Winstanley smuggled a mobile phone into the prison so she and Blair could communicate via WhatsApp and Snapchat. The pair exchanged dozens of intimate messages, including one in which Winstanley wrote:

“I love my job, but I love you more.”

Another message read:

“Life starts now, baby. Every sacrifice I make I do so I can be with you.”

Blair, who was jailed in 2014 for 12½ years due to his involvement in organized crime, reportedly told Winstanley he “couldn’t wait” to give her a baby.

The court was told the pair even referred to Mondays as their “date nights.” Prison CCTV captured them touching and then disappearing together into rooms while on duty.

Training Ignored, Rules Broken

Winstanley joined HMP Lindholme in October 2020 as an operational support officer and later became a prison officer. She had received full anti-corruption training — yet still pursued the relationship.

Judge Jeremy Richardson KC said:

“You knew it was wrong and against all the training you’d received — but you brazened it out and continued the corrupt affair.”

Despite suspicions from colleagues, Winstanley continued her relationship with Blair and even took screenshots of news articles detailing his serious crimes.

She went on to smuggle SIM cards into the prison and shared sensitive information with Blair, including:

Prisoner movement details
Healthcare information about other inmates
Advance warning of a cell search

A Security Risk Inside the Prison

The court heard Blair told Winstanley he had people inside the prison who would protect her, claiming someone was ready to “fight immediately if necessary.”

Winstanley also developed a close relationship with Blair’s mother, who the judge said was “clearly aware” of the nature of the affair.

Sentencing

Winstanley admitted to misconduct in public office and transmitting an indecent photograph from inside the prison. She was sentenced to two and a half years in prison.

Blair pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis and a prohibited mobile phone and USB stick. He received an additional 13-month sentence.

Judge Richardson concluded:

“It is utterly clear that you both knew that what you were doing was unlawful and corrupt.”

The case stands as a stark reminder of how personal relationships behind bars can quickly turn into serious security threats — with devastating consequences for everyone involved.

California Health Officials Warn of Deadly Mushroom Poisonings After 21 Reported Cases

Foraging for wild mushrooms may seem like a harmless hobby, but California health officials say it can turn deadly.

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has confirmed 21 cases of toxic mushroom poisoning in recent weeks, likely caused by the highly dangerous death cap mushroom. One adult has died, and several others have required intensive care.

“An outbreak of serious illness associated with eating foraged wild mushrooms has been reported,” CDPH said in a statement. “We are urging individuals to avoid foraging for and eating wild mushrooms while the risk of amatoxin poisoning is high.”

The cases were reported between mid-November and Dec. 5. While many incidents were clustered in Monterey County and the San Francisco Bay Area, state officials warn the danger exists across California. The California Poison Control System is now monitoring the situation.

Monterey County officials also issued a warning after local hospitals reported a spike in poisonings.

“Only people with extensive training and experience should eat wild mushrooms that they have picked themselves,” said Monterey County Health Officer Dr. Edward Moreno, noting that toxic and non-toxic mushrooms can look nearly identical.

Death Caps Linked to Severe Liver Damage

Health officials believe the outbreak is connected to Amanita phalloides, commonly known as the death cap mushroom. According to CDPH, several patients have suffered severe liver damage, including one case that may require a liver transplant.

“Death cap mushrooms contain potentially deadly toxins that can lead to liver failure,” said CDPH Director and State Public Health Officer Dr. Erica Pan. “Cooking, boiling, drying, or freezing does not make them safe.”

The Bay Area Mycological Society calls death caps “strikingly beautiful,” but also the number one cause of fatal mushroom poisonings worldwide. The species originated in Europe and first appeared in California in 1938. It is now found throughout the state and across the globe.

Scientists estimate death caps cause 10,000 illnesses and 100 deaths worldwide each year, according to NPR.

Other Dangerous Mushrooms

Other poisonous species commonly found in California include:

Amanita ocreata – known as the Death Angel
Amanita muscaria – known as the Fly Amanita

Because of the risk, CDPH advises the public not to forage for wild mushrooms at all during this season.

Symptoms Can Fade — Then Turn Fatal

Rainfall in fall and winter creates ideal conditions for toxic mushrooms to grow, especially near oak and hardwood trees, CDPH said.

Symptoms of poisoning often begin six to 24 hours after eating wild mushrooms and may include:

Watery diarrhea
Nausea and vomiting
Abdominal pain
Dehydration

While these symptoms may disappear within a day, severe liver failure can develop 48 to 96 hours later, even if the person feels better.

Anyone who becomes sick after eating wild mushrooms should seek medical attention immediately. Health care providers are urged to contact the California Poison Control System at 1-800-222-1222 for treatment guidance.

The warning comes just months after Arizona health officials cautioned residents not to lick toxic toads following seasonal rains — another reminder that nature can carry serious risks when ignored.

Flying Over the 405? LA’s Air Taxi Future Is Taking Shape

Traffic jams are so last year.
If Archer Aviation has its way, Angelenos could soon bypass the city’s infamous gridlock by commuting through the sky.

The electric air taxi company is positioning itself as a major transportation option ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, promising ultra-short flights across the city at prices comparable to an Uber Black. According to Archer CEO Adam Goldstein, what can take 90 minutes by car could be reduced to a five-minute flight.

“It’s a once-in-a-generation project,” Goldstein said, calling it one of the most exciting developments in modern aviation.

The Official Air Taxi of LA28

Momentum picked up in May when LA28 — the organizing committee for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games — named Archer Aviation the official air taxi provider for Team USA and the event itself. Since then, the company has secured deals with key venues and acquired Hawthorne Airport as its main hub. The location is strategic: just two miles from LAX and close to major Olympic sites like SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.

Photos shared with The California Post show the aircraft looking more like sleek, oversized drones than traditional airplanes. Designed to operate at helicopter-like altitudes of about 1,500 to 2,000 feet, the vehicles promise a very different experience from the chopper rides Angelenos are used to.

Quieter Than a Helicopter, Smaller Than a Jet

Unlike helicopters, which rely on a single large rotor and produce that familiar “wop wop” sound, Archer’s aircraft use multiple small propellers embedded within the rotor disc. The result is a soft whoosh rather than a roar — a key selling point for operating in dense urban airspace.

“These planes are closer in size to a car than a 787,” Goldstein said. A fully loaded aircraft weighs about 6,500 pounds — roughly the same as a Tesla Model X — while offering double the battery life.

Each aircraft costs around $2.5 million to manufacture, with full-scale production taking place at a large facility in Atlanta.

Booking a Flight Like You Book a Ride

Passengers will be able to book flights through the Archer app, much like ordering a ride-hail vehicle. Pricing, Goldstein said, should land in the same range as Uber Black.

For comparison, an Uber Black ride from LAX to the LA Memorial Coliseum — a key Olympic venue — currently costs just under $100. Archer aims to make its flights accessible not just to VIPs, but to everyday Angelenos looking to skip traffic on the 405.

Fast-Tracked by the Feds

The federal government has been accelerating Archer’s rollout through the eVTOL Integration Pilot Program, which supports early trials of electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft across the U.S. The goal: test safety, build public trust, and prepare for large-scale deployment.

Archer, along with several competitors, is expected to begin trial flights this summer in Huntington Beach and other pilot cities. If approvals move quickly, the first commercial rides could follow soon after.

Not Everyone Is on Board

Still, the path forward hasn’t been turbulence-free. Community groups and aviation critics have circulated a “Stop Flying Taxis in Southern California” petition for more than a year, raising concerns about noise, low-flying aircraft, and a lack of public input.

Goldstein compares the skepticism to early fears surrounding self-driving cars.

“You just have to show them,” he said, noting that one ride in Tesla’s Full Self-Driving mode convinced his once-skeptical parents. “It’s a show, don’t tell.”

Despite the pushback, Goldstein says he’s grateful the political and regulatory pieces have aligned.

“I’m just lucky the politics could work themselves out,” he said.

If Archer succeeds, the daily LA commute may never look the same — and the fastest route across town might just be straight up.

The long-anticipated biopic about rock legend Ozzy Osbourne is officially gaining momentum, and according to his son, Jack Osbourne, the project has already reached a major milestone in development.

Jack, 40, shared an update on the film during a holiday episode of Influenced, the SiriusXM show hosted by musician Billy Morrison, in December 2025. After nearly six years in development, he confirmed the movie has entered its next critical phase. “We’re full steam ahead in the next phase of development,” Jack said. “It’s an acted movie that we’ve been developing with Sony Studios for about six years now.”

Although the actor set to portray Ozzy has not yet been revealed, Jack made it clear the team is thrilled with their choice. “We have our decided pick, and I can’t say anything yet, but it’s a phenomenal, phenomenal actor,” he shared. “We also have a director attached, and we’re currently doing a rewrite.”

Reports indicate the film will primarily focus on the love story between Ozzy and his wife, Sharon Osbourne. Rocketmanscreenwriter Lee Hall is attached to the project, which is being produced by Sony Pictures in partnership with Polygram Entertainment.

While fans are eagerly awaiting details, Jack said his father took a laid-back approach to the biopic. “Oh, he would [be excited],” Jack said when asked. “I’d give him updates, and he’d just go, ‘I don’t give a sh*t. Just tell me when it’s out so I can go see it.’”

Ozzy and Sharon, 73, previously discussed the film during an episode of their revived podcast in April 2024. “By the time they finish this film, I’ll be dead… I wanna be alive to f*cking see it,” Ozzy joked at the time, while Sharon added, “Movies take forever to make. Forever.”

Tragically, Ozzy Osbourne passed away before the film entered production. The Black Sabbath frontman died on July 22, 2025, at age 76. His death certificate later revealed he suffered a heart attack, with coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease listed as contributing conditions.

The iconic condiment brand has unveiled the Heinz Dipper, a new fry box with a built-in ketchup compartment that allows customers to dip fries directly into the container. The design eliminates the need for packets, cups, or squeezing ketchup onto individual fries, making on-the-go dipping far less messy.

The new packaging is now rolling out at participating restaurants and sports stadiums in six U.S. cities, as well as in 10 other countries, including Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, Italy, Portugal, the Philippines, Thailand, China, and Kuwait.

According to Heinz, the idea was inspired by the universal frustration of eating fries with ketchup outside a restaurant. The company says 70% of people who eat fries with ketchup have spilled sauce while dipping on the go, and 80% have considered skipping condiments altogether because traditional packaging is too inconvenient.

The road to the 2028 Summer Olympics officially kicked off this week as registration opened for the first Olympic ticket draw — and excitement was high. Some fans logging on Wednesday morning encountered long virtual lines and technical hiccups, prompting LA28 organizers to urge patience while navigating the online waiting room.

If you’re hoping to score tickets to the Games, here’s what you need to know.

How the Olympic Ticket Draw Works

Fans around the world can register for the ticket draw now through March 18. Registration doesn’t guarantee tickets, but it does enter you into a random selection process that assigns time slots to purchase tickets online.

Those selected will receive a designated window during “Drop 1,” which runs from April 9 through April 19. Notifications will be sent by email between March 31 and April 7, letting registrants know whether they’ve been assigned a purchase time.

Tickets for both the Opening and Closing Ceremonies are expected to go on sale in April as well.

Ticket Prices and Presales

Single-event tickets will start at $28, with a variety of options available for individuals and groups.

A special local presale will run from April 2 to April 6 for select regions. Residents in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties will have early access, along with residents of Oklahoma, Canadian, and Cleveland counties in Oklahoma. (Softball and canoe slalom events will be held in Oklahoma City to avoid building new venues in Southern California.)

LA28’s official ticketing partners AXS and EVENTIM are managing the ticketing process. Fans interested in premium, ticket-inclusive hospitality packages can explore curated experiences offered by On Location, though registration through the LA28 ticketing website is still required.

The 2028 Games will showcase elite athletes from around the world, including many with Southern California ties. For Paralympian Scout Bassett, Los Angeles represents more than just a host city.

Get ready, Southern California — women’s professional flag football is officially coming to the Southland.

The SoCal Women’s Pro Flag Football League (SCWPFFL) announced plans this week to launch its inaugural season later this year, with the goal of making Southern California a premier hub for elite women’s professional flag football.

The new league will feature franchises across all eight Southern California counties: Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, Riverside, Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Bernardino, and Imperial. Games will be hosted at top high school and junior college football stadiums throughout the region, bringing professional-level competition directly into local communities.

The SCWPFFL’s first season will include a 14-game schedule running from June through mid-August, followed by playoffs shortly after. Each matchup will be played over four 15-minute quarters, mirroring the fast-paced, high-energy style that has helped fuel flag football’s rapid rise. A league draft is scheduled for March.

League founder Roy Englebrecht said the timing and location couldn’t be better.

“Southern California has always been a leader in sports innovation,” Englebrecht said in a statement. “This league is about creating opportunity and visibility, with players finally having a true professional home to continue their careers in flag football. It’s not just about the games — it’s about building a sustainable future for women’s football and inspiring the next generation of athletes.”

Englebrecht, a partner in the soon-to-be-public Combat Sports Entertainment, also revealed plans to hire a league commissioner later this month to oversee the league’s formation. He added that the SCWPFFL will offer ownership opportunities for investors interested in being part of the league from the ground up.

“I want people to experience the same thrill I had owning a team,” Englebrecht said, referencing his past ownership of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes alongside actor Mark Harmon and businessman Hank Stickney. The Quakes are a Single-A minor league baseball affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels and were previously known as the San Bernardino Spirit in the late 1980s.

More details about the league are expected early next month, including team names, specific venues, draft and tryout information, and corporate partnership opportunities.

The launch of the SCWPFFL comes as women’s flag football continues to explode in popularity nationwide. High school athletic associations across the country are officially sanctioning the sport, while the NFL has invested heavily in grassroots programs. The growth at the youth, high school, collegiate, and international levels is also perfectly timed with flag football’s Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“The talent level is extraordinary, the interest is real, and the timing is right,” Englebrecht said. “Our vision is to provide a professional platform for elite female flag football athletes across Southern California, showcasing their speed, skill, and strategy while helping shape the future of one of the fastest-growing sports in the world.”

Mattel Unveils Its First Autistic Barbie, Expanding the Fashionistas Line's Commitment to Inclusion

Mattel is expanding the Barbie universe once again — this time with the introduction of its first-ever autistic Barbie.

Debuting Monday, the new doll joins Mattel’s growing Barbie Fashionistas line, which is designed to celebrate diversity and inclusion. The collection already features Barbies with Down syndrome, a blind Barbie, dolls with vitiligo, hearing aids, prosthetic limbs, and a wide range of body types, skin tones, and hair textures.

According to Mattel, the autistic Barbie was developed over the course of more than 18 months in close collaboration with the Autistic Self Advocacy Network (ASAN), a nonprofit organization focused on advancing the rights and authentic representation of autistic people. The goal was to create a doll that thoughtfully reflects some of the ways autistic individuals experience and interact with the world.

That process came with unique challenges. Autism exists on a broad spectrum, with traits that vary widely and are often invisible. “Autism doesn’t look any one way,” said Noor Pervez, ASAN’s community engagement manager, who worked closely with Mattel throughout the design process. “But we can try to show some of the ways that autism expresses itself.”

Subtle design details were intentionally included. The doll’s eyes angle slightly to the side, representing how some autistic people may avoid direct eye contact. Articulated elbows and wrists acknowledge stimming behaviors such as hand flapping or repetitive movements, which some individuals use to regulate sensory input or express excitement.

Even the outfit required careful consideration. Designers debated between tight-fitting and loose clothing, as sensory sensitivities vary among autistic people. The final choice was an A-line dress with short sleeves and a flowy skirt to minimize fabric-to-skin contact. Flat shoes were selected to promote comfort, stability, and ease of movement.

Each doll also comes with thoughtful accessories, including a pink finger-clip fidget spinner, noise-canceling headphones, and a pink tablet inspired by communication devices used by some autistic people who are non-speaking or have limited speech.

The release also allowed Mattel to highlight an underrepresented segment of the autistic community. The doll’s facial features were inspired by employees in India, with mood boards reflecting women from diverse Indian backgrounds. Pervez emphasized the importance of inclusive representation across cultures within the autism community.

Mattel has steadily expanded its inclusive offerings in recent years. In 2023, the company launched its first Barbie with Down syndrome, followed by a Barbie representing someone with Type 1 diabetes last summer. The Fashionistas line also includes a Barbie and a Ken with prosthetic legs, a Barbie with hearing aids, and dolls representing tall, petite, and curvy body types.

“Barbie has always strived to reflect the world kids see and the possibilities they imagine,” said Jamie Cygielman, Mattel’s global head of dolls, in a statement. “We’re proud to introduce our first autistic Barbie as part of that ongoing work.”

The autistic Barbie will be available starting Monday at Mattel’s online shop and Target stores for a suggested retail price of $11.87. Walmart is expected to begin carrying the doll in March.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the estimated prevalence of autism among 8-year-old children in the U.S. is 1 in 31. CDC data also shows higher diagnosis rates among Black, Hispanic, Asian, and Pacific Islander children compared to white children, with autism being more than three times as prevalent among boys than girls.

With this latest release, Mattel continues its push toward more inclusive play — offering children dolls that better reflect the diversity of the real world.
